Edith Franke (politician)
Edith Martha Franke (* 11. October 1942 in Cottbus as Edith Martha Hartkopf ) is a former German politician ( no party affiliation ). From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the Saxon state parliament , in which she belonged to the parliamentary group of the party Die Linke .
Life
Edith Franke learned the trade of a machine fitter and studied from 1962 at the Technical University of Dresden . She has been a graduate engineer-economist and sociologist since 1967. In 1971 she received her doctorate A (Dr. phil.). In 1971 she became a full-time party secretary at the Physics section of the TU Dresden. From 1975 to 1989 she was a full-time secretary for agitation and propaganda on the SED district leadership of the TU Dresden. In July 1989 she changed to the SED city administration in Dresden in the same function and was finally first secretary of the SED city administration from November 15, 1989 to January 18, 1990.
Edith Franke founded the Dresdner Tafel e. V. and was its chairman until May 2015. She is a founding member of the Landesverband Sächsischer Tafel and the Bundesverband Deutsche Tafel e. V.
Furthermore, in 2000 she founded the “Linden-Haus” for street children in the building of a former communal kindergarten, which was initially made available to the Dresdner Tafel rent-free , which in 2010 became a transitional residence for homeless young people and was created by the Dresdner Tafel out of economic difficulties was returned to the city at the turn of the year 2014/15.
Edith Franke lives as a widow in Dresden and has a daughter.
politics
Edith Franke was a member of the SED from March 1963 to February 1990 and has since been independent. In the state elections in 2009 , she was elected to the Saxon state parliament as a non-party member of the Die Linke party. She was the spokeswoman for poverty reduction in their parliamentary group and age president of the state parliament during the 5th electoral term .
When the state list was drawn up for the 2014 state elections , it was no longer taken into account by this party; Despite late support from the left party leadership, Markus Ulbig (CDU) won this direct election campaign. When she did not move into the state parliament, she ended her politically influenced career.
Awards
Edith Franke received the Federal Order of Merit Medal in 2005 . On May 26, 2005, Erich Iltgen, President of the State Parliament, awarded her the Saxon Constitutional Medal for “founding the first table in East Germany” . She has been honorary chairwoman of the Dresdner Tafel since 2015.
