Edmund A. Letts
Edmund Albert Letts (born August 27, 1852 in Kent , † February 19, 1918 ) was a British chemist .
biography
Edmund Letts studied at King's College London and briefly at the universities in Vienna and Berlin. He received his doctorate in 1873 and received the first chair in chemistry established there in 1876 at University College in Bristol . He moved to Queen's College in Belfast in 1879 . In 1874 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
Letts discovered the Letts nitrile synthesis, named after him, for the one-step preparation of aromatic nitriles from carboxylic acids. He fell victim to a traffic accident in England.
