Edmund Grünsteidl

Edmund Grünsteidl (born October 9, 1900 in Vienna ; † December 3, 1971 there ) was an Austrian commodity scientist , rector of the University of World Trade (WU Vienna) and a member of the Austrian National Council .

Life

Edmund Grünsteidl studied chemistry and physics at the University of Vienna , the Vienna University of Technology and the Graz University of Technology . In December 1925 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1925 he became an assistant at the Federal Teaching and Research Institute for the Chemical Industry, from 1927 to 1933 assistant to Ernst Beutel at the Technological Institute of the University of World Trade in Vienna. In 1933 he completed his habilitation on microchemistry in goods testing, received the venia docendi and was a private lecturer at the University of World Trade.

In 1934 Edmund Grünsteidl became head of the Austrian raw materials research center at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce's industrial development institute , but was dismissed after the “ Anschluss ” in March 1938. He was accused of misusing the raw materials research center for their purposes due to his work as head of the institute of the Paneuropean Union . He then worked as a commercial teacher, during the Second World War he worked from 1942 to 1945 at the research institute of the Süddeutsche Zellwolle AG in Kelheim , Lower Bavaria . After the end of the war in 1945, he became an employee of the Economic Development Institute of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. In 1948 Grünsteidl became head of the goods inspection department of the Austrian Druggists' Committee.

When the Vienna University of World Trade was rebuilt in 1946, Edmund Grünsteidl became interim director of the Chair of Technology and Commodity Science ; In 1949 he was appointed associate professor and director of the Institute for Technology at the University of World Trade. With the appointment of the college to university, he was appointed full university professor in 1955; In 1958 he was appointed full professor for technology and merchandise management. From 1958 to 1960 he was rector of the University for World Trade.

Grünsteidl was also heavily involved in the Austrian Fiber Research Institute, the Austrian Institute for Packaging and the Austrian Society for Goods Knowledge and Technology (ÖGWT), which he founded in 1957 together with Felix Romanik and goods science teachers.

Grünsteidl had been an honorary member of the Catholic student association K.Ö.HV Mercuria Vienna in the ÖCV since 1957 .

Political activity

Grünsteidl had been a member of the Fatherland Front unity party since May 1933 and in May 1938 submitted an application for admission to the NSDAP , which Grünsteidl justified after the war with concerns about his professional career. Grünsteidl also joined several National Socialist organizations in 1938, such as the German Labor Front , NSV , the NSLB and the Reich Air Protection Association , where Grünsteidl stood out as the district group leader. His admission to the NSDAP was later rejected and an application for reopening was rejected, so that in 1941 he considered the matter "settled". In 1943, Grünsteidl was accepted into the party with membership number 9,020,920.

After the Second World War, Grünsteidl was classified as “less exposed”, several requests for exemption from treatment under the Prohibition Act of 1947 were rejected with reference to his membership in the NSDAP.

Grünsteidl was from 9 June 1959 until 14 December 1962 Member for the ÖVP in the Austrian parliament .
