course

The Edron (formerly also Turrite di Vagli ) rises in the eastern area of the Apuan Alps and in the western municipality of Vagli Sotto . It arises from several small torrents that come together south of Vagli Sopra. The main tributary here is the Fosso Tambura (own length 6 km), which takes in several streams coming from the mountain Monte Sumbra (1764 m) and first leads north towards Vagli Sopra and from there east into Lake Vagli . Up to this point the valley is called Alta Valle dell'Edron (Upper Edron Valley). At the end of the reservoir, the river changes to the municipality of Careggine , in which it spends 3 km and, for the first kilometer, forms the border with the northeastern municipality of Vagli Sotto. The other kilometers it runs as the northern border with Camporgiano. At Isola Roccalberti it completely enters the municipality of Camporgiano (a total of 5 km) and flows northwest. Shortly before Poggio (district of Camporgiano) the Edron passes the medieval bridge Ponte Vecchio sull'Edron , which collapsed in the 1990s and has since been rebuilt . Between Camporgiano and Poggio it now flows under the six-arched (25 m per arch) railway bridge of the Aulla Lunigiana – Lucca railway line and shortly afterwards it reaches the Serchio as a right tributary.
