Eduard Štorch
Eduard Štorch (born April 10, 1878 in Ostroměř , † June 25, 1956 in Prague ) was a Czech writer, educator and archaeologist.
Career
After graduating from secondary school in Hradec Králové , Štorch attended the teacher training college there. Afterwards he worked as a school councilor in northern and eastern Bohemia. From 1903 until his retirement in 1938, Štorch taught in Prague. Štorch studied archeology with Lubor Niederle . He was also interested in ethnography and biology .
In 1935, Štorch and Karel Čondl wrote a three-part history textbook for the community schools . The very progressive work with the title “Pracovní učebnice dějepisu pro školy měšťanské” ( Practical History Book for the Citizens School ) was particularly strongly attacked by the Catholic Church and in 1936 led to an interpellation by the Senator and Catechist Alois Roudnický ( ČSL ) in the Czechoslovak Parliament.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Štorch published a number of books on the prehistory and early history of Bohemia and Moravia, which were illustrated by Zdeněk Burian . He later processed this topic in books for young people. Štorch achieved notoriety in the German-speaking world primarily through the stories "Die Mammutjäger", "Der Bronzeschatz" and "Abenteuer am Große River", which were published in several editions. He found his final resting place in Lobeč , the setting of his novel “Minehava”.
