Henry Asa Coffeen (born February 14, 1841 in Gallipolis , Ohio , † December 9, 1912 in Sheridan , Wyoming ) was an American politician .

Life

In 1853, Coffeen moved with his parents to Indiana and from there to Homer , Illinois . In Illinois he attended Abingdon College, where he graduated from the science faculty. He then worked as a teacher and was on the faculty at Hiram College in Ohio. In 1884 Coffeen moved to the Wyoming Territory and settled there in Sheridan, the administrative seat of Sheridan County . In Wyoming he was a member of the commission that drafted the new state's constitution.

Coffeen was elected a Democrat to Congress in 1892, defeating the Republican incumbent Clarence D. Clark , and represented Wyoming from March 4, 1893 to March 3, 1895 in the US House of Representatives . His attempt to be elected to the House of Representatives for another legislative period failed in the 1894 elections. Coffeen died in Sheridan in 1912 and was buried in Sheridan Cemetery .
