William Theopilus Jones

William Theopilus Jones (born February 20, 1842 in Corydon , Harrison County , Indiana , † October 9, 1882 there ) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the Wyoming Territory as a delegate to the US House of Representatives .

Early years

After finishing school, William Jones studied law and after his admission to the bar, he began working in his new profession in his hometown of Corydon in 1865. He had previously participated in the civil war as a Union soldier . By the end of the war he had attained the rank of major.

Political career

William Jones was a member of the Republican Party . In 1869, he was appointed judge of the Wyoming Territory Supreme Court. To do this, he moved to Cheyenne . In the congressional elections of 1870 he was able to prevail against the previous congress delegate Stephen Friel Nuckolls and move into the House of Representatives in Washington . There he represented the interests of his territory between March 4, 1871 and March 3, 1873 . In the following congressional elections in 1872 he was defeated by William Randolph Steele , the candidate of the Democratic Party .

Another résumé

After the end of his service in the federal capital, William Jones retired from politics. He returned to Corydon and worked there as a lawyer. He died there in 1882 at the age of 40.
