John J. McIntyre

John Joseph McIntyre (born December 17, 1904 in Dewey County , Oklahoma , † November 30, 1974 in Cheyenne , Wyoming ) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1943 he represented the state of Wyoming in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

John McIntyre was born on a farm in Oklahoma. He attended schools in his home country and then studied law at the University of Colorado . After he was admitted to the bar in 1929, he began his new profession in Glenrock , Wyoming. He later moved to Douglas in Converse County . He also worked there as a lawyer. He was District Attorney in Converse County from 1933 to 1936. From 1936 to 1938 McIntyre worked for the Department of Justice in Washington . In 1938 he also worked briefly for the Ministry of Agriculture .

Political career

McIntyre was a member of the Democratic Party . He was also a member of the Wyoming National Guard from 1935 to 1941. There he held the rank of captain. In the 1940 congressional elections, John McIntyre was elected to the US House of Representatives against incumbent Frank O. Horton . There he completed a two-year legislative period from January 3, 1941 until January 1943. In 1942 he was not re-elected. His mandate went to Frank A. Barrett , the Republican Party candidate . From 1943 to 1944, McIntyre was the Assistant Attorney General of Wyoming. Between February 1944 and August 1945 he took part in the final phase of the Second World War as a soldier in the US Army . He was used on the European theater of war. In 1945 he served as state auditor for the Wyoming State Audit Office. In 1946 he ran unsuccessfully for a return to the US Congress . In 1950 he ran for governor of Wyoming just as unsuccessfully . He was a Justice on the Wyoming Supreme Court from 1960 until his death in 1974.
