Clarence Don Clark (born April 16, 1851 in Sandy Creek , Oswego County , New York , USA , †  November 18, 1930 in Evanston , Wyoming ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He represented the state of Wyoming in both houses of Congress .

Life

Clark attended the University of Iowa and studied there law : his admission to the bar in 1874. He received He was both as a teacher and at the same time as a lawyer in Manchester ( Iowa active). In 1881, Clark settled and practiced law in Evanston before becoming a county attorney for Uinta County . He practiced the profession from 1882 to 1884. In 1889 he was a delegate to the constituent assembly of the state.

politics

In 1889, Clark began his political career as a Congressman for Wyoming. He held office from December 1, 1890 to March 3, 1893 for two legislative terms (51st and 52nd Congress elections). After his electoral defeat in 1892 against the Democrat Henry A. Coffeen , Clark ran for the US Senate in 1895 and took office after winning the election on January 23, 1895. He was re-elected to Clark three times and served in that position until March 3, 1917. Clark served as Chairman of the Committee on Railroads for the 54th to 59th terms and for the 59th to 62nd terms he was a member of the Committee on Judiciary , in the 63rd and 64th electoral terms he was a member of the Geological Survey .

After his election defeat in 1916, Clark continued his work as a lawyer in Washington . From 1919 he also served as a member of the International Joint Commission , which he chaired from 1923 until his retirement in 1929.

In 1929 Clark retired to Evanston, where he died a year later at the age of 79; he was buried in Masonic Cemetery .
