Clifford P. Hansen
Clifford Peter Hansen (* 16th October 1912 in Zenith , Lincoln County , Wyoming ; † 20th October 2009 in Jackson , Wyoming) was an American politician of the Republican Party . He was governor of the state of Wyoming from 1963 to 1967 and US Senator from 1967 to 1978 .
biography
Hansen, who came from a family posing as settlers and ranchers in Jackson Hole settled, graduated after attending public schools in Jackson studying agricultural science at the University of Wyoming , which he 1934 with the graduation as Bachelor graduated. Later, he was from 1946 to 1966 first as a member and then from 1955 to 1962 and Chairman of the Board of Trustees ( Board of Trustees ) of the University of Wyoming. He was also an officer in the Wyoming Ranchers' Association, the National Cattle Breeders Association, and the Livestock Research and Marketing Advisory Committee as a ranchers.
As early as 1937 he began his political career with the election to the Senate of Wyoming , before he later became commissioner of the Columbia Interstate (Columbia Interstate Commissioner) and Snake River (Snake River Commissioner) and as such a signatory of the Snake River Compact of October 10 1949, by which the damming of the river for energy production was decided. From 1943 to 1951 he was also a County Commissioner in Teton County .
After his election as governor of the state of Wyoming, he was from January 7, 1963 to January 2, 1967 in office. In 1966 he was elected as a member of the Republican Party to the US Senator, where he represented the interests of the State of Wyoming in Washington, DC after his re-election in 1972 until his resignation on December 31, 1978 . During his time as a senator, he was a member of the Veterans Committee.
In addition, he was a member of the boards of various financial and socio-political organizations. His daughter Mary Hansen Mead ran unsuccessfully against the popular Democratic governor Mike Sullivan in 1990 ; she died in 1996 in a riding accident. Her son Matt Mead , Hansen's grandson, won the November 2010 gubernatorial election in Wyoming.
