Bryant Butler Brooks (* 5. February 1861 in Bernardston , Massachusetts , † 8. December 1944 in Casper , Wyoming ) was an American politician of the Republican Party and from 1905 to 1911 Governor of the State of Wyoming.

biography

After attending public schools graduated Brooks trained at the Business College in Chicago ; and was 1880 in Big Muddy (Wyoming), where he began immediately his professional and political career. Both his success in trading on the stock exchange and his activity within the Republican Party led to his being elected a member of the State Legislature . In the following years Brooks was several times a delegate at conventions of the Republican Party and also elected to one of the electors for the presidential election in the United States in 1900 , in which his party colleague William McKinley was elected US president .

As the successor to Fenimore Chatterton , Brooks was elected Governor of Wyoming in 1904 to complete the tenure of Governor DeForest Richards, who died on April 28, 1903 . After this electoral period he was elected governor for a second term in 1906 and sworn in on January 2, 1907. Brooks held this office until January 2, 1911. He was the first governor to live in the newly built state governor's mansion . After the election period ended, Brooks withdrew from politics.

In 1939 his memoirs appeared under the title Memoirs of Bryant B. Brooks: Cowboy, Trapper, Lumberman, Stockman, Oilman, Banker, and Governor of Wyoming .
