Clifford Joy Rogers

Clifford Joy "Doc" Rogers (born December 20, 1897 in Clarion , Wright County , Iowa , † May 18, 1962 ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ), who served from 1953 to 1955 as acting governor of the state of Wyoming .

Career

Rogers was orphaned at the age of seven and then raised with his uncle, a professor at the University of Iowa . He attended university himself and then enlisted in the US Army . He first served on the Mexican border and during the First World War in Europe .

After the war ended, he settled in Gillette (Wyoming), where he worked as a football coach at a high school . He then lived in Sheridan for a while before moving to Cheyenne in 1928 . There he was elected Secretary of State in 1931 and held the office until 1933. Then he served from 1933 to 1935 as Deputy Secretary of State . He was later elected State Treasurer , which he remained from 1947 to 1951. He then served again as Secretary of State from 1951 to 1953 . In this role, he continued the official business as acting governor after the resignation of Governor Frank A. Barrett . During Roger's tenure as acting governor, the state motto was "equality". He lost the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 1954, but was re-elected State Treasurer in 1959 and held that position until his death in May 1962.
