Eduard Freise

Eduard Ferdinand Freise (born May 18, 1849 in Gandersheim , † December 6, 1927 in Braunschweig ) was a German chemist and the founder of the German Drug Academy in Braunschweig.

Life

Freise was born the son of the businessman Karl Freise and first attended Günther's private school in Braunschweig. In 1865 he was accepted because of a special examination at the Collegium Carolinum , where he studied construction and a little later chemistry. During his studies in 1865 he became a member of the Braunschweig fraternity Germania . During his studies, he switched to the Technical University of Munich , the University of Göttingen and the University of Rostock , where he took his doctoral examination in chemistry in March 1870 . The topic of the doctoral thesis was on oxygen consumption and carbonic acid formation during the germination of floury and oily plant seeds, as well as the development of leaf and flower buds. At the end of 1876 he founded a drug and chemicals business in Braunschweig.

After founding the German Drug Academy in 1880, he sold his business in 1881. In 1905 Freise was awarded the title of " Professor " by the Prince Regent of Braunschweig . He headed the academy until 1915 and continued teaching until 1927.

Eduard Freise was married to Helene, daughter of the merchant Weusthoff from Braunschweig. The three children Werner (* 1873), Käte (* 1880) and Robert (* 1885) resulted from the marriage.

Eduard Freise died on December 6, 1927 at the age of 79. The Freisestraße in Braunschweig was named after him. On June 29, 1930, a memorial stone was erected in his honor in the garden of the Drug Academy.
