Eduard Heinrich von Baumhauer
Eduard Heinrich von Baumhauer , also: Eduard Hendrik von Baumhauer or Edouard Henri von Baumhauer (born September 18, 1820 in Brussels , † January 18, 1885 in Haarlem ) was a Dutch chemist and naturalist.
Life
He was born as the son of Willem Theodorus von Baumhauer (1785–1849) and his wife Apolonia Joanna (née Croese, 1791–1854) in 1820 in Brussels, which was then part of the southern Netherlands. He studied at the University of Utrecht , where he was in 1843 when Simon Karsten Dr. suffered. hum. and received his doctorate in 1844 with a thesis on the chemical analysis of meteorite rocks under Gerardus Johannes Mulder , who had a significant influence on his scientific career.
Baumhauer's main field of work was chemistry, especially analytical chemistry . He has published a large number of papers in this field. In addition to publications on general scientific topics, he was interested in other scientific topics: diamonds , tapworms , alcoholometry , milk analysis, meteorology and analysis of meteorite rocks .
He was a member of numerous scientific societies. Since 1858 he was a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW). In 1877 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society . On July 3, 1882, he was accepted as a member ( matriculation number 2348 ) of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . From 1864 to 1885 he was secretary of the Dutch Society of Sciences .
