Eduard Israilowitsch Buchman ( Russian Эдуард Израилович Бухман , at the World Chess Federation FIDE Eduard Bukhman ; born June 4, 1941 ) is a Russian chess player and coach.

Life

Buchman started playing chess when he was seven. He was trained in the Leningrad Pioneer Palace under the direction of Vladimir Sak and between 1958 and 1960 took part in the Soviet youth championships with the selection of his city. After graduating from school, he began studying at the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics . In the summer of 1966 he won with the Soviet team, which included Boris Gulko , Albert Kapengut , Gennady Kuzmin , Vladimir Savon and Vladimir Tukmakov , the XIII. Student Olympics in Örebro .

Last year he was first with 12.5 points out of 15 at the Leningrad Burewestnik Championship. In the VII Sokolski memorial tournament in 1976/1977 in Minsk , he shared third place behind Sawon and Abram Roisman. After perestroika began, he took part in several international tournaments and was awarded the title of International Master in 1990.

He has been a trainer since the late 1960s. Between 1982 and 2001 he was the head coach of the Leningrad Military District, after which he moved to the Kirowski Children's and Youth Center. Among his former students are Tatiana Rubzowa and Evgeni Alexejew , with whom he worked from 1998-2000. For his work he was honored with the badge of the best in physical culture and sport .

Buchman's Elo rating is 2370 (as of February 2016), but he is listed as inactive because he has not played a rated game since the Open in Palanga in September 2004 . His highest rating was 2435 in January 1977 and July 1989.
