Volodymyr Tukmakov (Ukrainian Володимир Тукмаков; English Vladimir Tukmakov ) (born March 5, 1946 in Odessa ) is a Ukrainian grandmaster in chess .

Career

In 1970, 1972 and 1983 Volodymyr Tukmakov was second in the USSR championships . In 1970 he became an international master .

Tukmakow's best results in international individual tournaments include second places in 1970 in Buenos Aires behind Bobby Fischer and in 1973 in Madrid behind Karpow. Tukmakov won the traditionally strong IBM tournament in Amsterdam in 1974 (shared with Borislav Ivkov and Vlastimil Jansa), in 1977 in Děčín , and in 1978 the tournaments in Vilnius (before Tigran Petrosian ) and Las Palmas (shared with Gyula Sax ). In 1984 he finished second behind Tony Miles in the traditional Tilburg tournament and in 1985 he won the Lugano Open , at that time one of the most important open tournaments in which Soviet chess players took part for the first time.

Volodymyr Tukmakow was the national coach of the Ukrainian team, which he led to the gold medal at the 2004 Chess Olympiad in Calvià and 2010 in Khanty-Mansiysk . From 2014 to 2016 he coached top player Anish Giri . In 2017 Wesley So announced his engagement as a personal trainer. Tukmakow has held the title of FIDE Senior Trainer since 2004.

He is out at the FIDE as inactive as it since in August 2013 in Rockville (Maryland) played Rasuwajew has not played a game more Counting -Gedenkturnier.

When asked about his most memorable game, Tukmakov announced his victory against former national champion Viktor Korchnoi , played in the fourth round of the USSR championship in Riga in 1970.

National team

With the Soviet national team Tukmakov won the 1984 Chess Olympiad and the European Team Championships in 1973, 1983 and 1989. For Ukraine, he competed at the 1993 World Team Championships and achieved second place. In 1984 he was appointed as a substitute for the Soviet team for the match between the USSR and the rest of the world . He was used three times, against Ljubomir Ljubojević he achieved a win and a draw, against Viktor Korchnoi a draw.

In the Soviet club championship Tukmakow played for Burewestnik until 1968 , with whom he became Soviet club champion in 1968, then for CSKA Moscow , with whom he became Soviet club champion in 1984 and won the European Club Cup in 1986, 1988 and 1990. He won the Czech extra league in 2009 with ŠK Mahrla Prague . Tukmakow also took part in the European Club Cup with the Croatian clubs ŠK Borovo Vukovar '91 and GŠK Mravince-Dalmacijacement and the Bosnian ŠK Bihać . When he participated with the ŠK Bihać in 2000, he achieved the best individual result on the second board.
