Yevhen Shtembulyak

Jewhen Olehowytsch Schtembuljak ( Ukrainian Євген Олегович Штембуляк , with the World Chess Federation FIDE Evgeny Shtembuliak ; born March 12, 1999 in Odessa ) is a Ukrainian chess master .

Life

At the age of four, Shtembuljak moved with his parents from his native Odessa to Chornomorsk , where his parents took up employment in the city administration. At the age of five he learned the rules of chess from his mother, who had successfully competed in tournaments herself as a child. Soon afterwards he became a member of the local chess club, where first Vadim Belyj, then the international master Roman Tisewitsch were his first coaches.

Shtembuljak has won numerous national youth championships of Ukraine, starting with the U8 category. As a leading youth in his country, he regularly took part in youth world and European championships, where he won several medals in various categories. His greatest sporting success in the youth field was his victory at the Junior World Championships U20 in New Delhi in 2019 .

He became International Master in 2016 and Grand Master in 2019 , having met his standards at various tournaments in the United States of America during the year. At the end of 2019 he won the national championship of Ukraine for the first time in Lutsk .

His Elo rating is 2620 (as of March 2020), which puts him in 13th place in the Ukrainian Elo ranking. His highest rating to date was 2628 in March 2020.

After his high school Schtembuljak studied in Moscow for a year sport and then moved to the Texas Tech University in Lubbock , where he has since marketing studies.
