Dmytro Komarov

Dmytro Danylowytsch Komarow ( Ukrainian Дмитро Данилович Комаров ; born December 1, 1968 in Kiev ) is a Ukrainian chess player and coach.

Life

Komarov's first chess trainer in his hometown of Kiev was Alexei Kosikow. In the 1980s he was one of the most promising talents in the Soviet Union, along with Wassyl Ivanchuk , Boris Gelfand and others, and took part in important Soviet junior tournaments. In 1983 he won the Ukrainian championship (together with Valery Neverov ).

After finishing school, he began to study at the Technical University in Leningrad and took part in the city's chess life. In 1987 he played in the final of the Leningrad Championship. After completing his studies, he was a member of the army and took part in several Soviet army tournaments. During this phase he also played abroad for the first time and was awarded the title of International Master in 1991. In 1994, after tournament successes in France and Romania, the grandmaster title followed . In the 1990s Komarov had his most active phase as a player. He won in Belgrade in 1995 and at the turn of the year 1995/96 took part in the super tournament in Reggio nell'Emilia , where he shared third place with Oleh Romanyschyn . At this time, his rating exceeded the mark of 2,600. Komarow won national team championships with his respective clubs in Yugoslavia, Italy and Belgium (with the KSK 47 Eynatten in the 2009/10 season ), he also played in France for Cavalier Bleu Drancy . Komarow took part in the European Club Cup in 1996 with the ŠK Partizan Belgrade , in 1998 and 1999 with CS Surya Montecatini and in 2005 and 2010 with the KSK 47 Eynatten .

In the late 1990s, Komarov began working as a trainer for Ruslan Ponomarjow , whom he prepared for the planned but failed world championship match with Garry Kasparov . Komarov also suggested adding the very young Sergei Karjakin to the coaching team of Ponomarjows. For several years he has been working as a trainer in the United Arab Emirates .

At the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship in Dubai in 2014 , Komarov acted as the English-speaking chief commentator in the live Internet broadcasts.
