Eduard Sacher (born February 8, 1843 in Zseliz ; † November 22, 1892 in Vienna ) was an Austrian restaurateur and hotelier.

Life

The son of a wine and delicatessen merchant, Franz Sacher (1816–1907), completed an apprenticeship at the kuk Hofzuckerbäcker Demel and, during this time, completed the Sachertorte in the form it is known today. In 1873 he opened a restaurant on Kärntner Strasse in Vienna , where he set up chambres séparées based on the Parisian model . In 1876, Sacher had the Hotel Sacher built on the spot where the Kärntnertortheater had previously stood. After his death, it was managed by his wife Anna Sacher .

The children Eduard junior, Franziska and Anna ("Anni") emerged from the marriage with Anna, née Fuchs. In 1871 he was appointed kuk court supplier for the wine and delicatessen trade .

Sacher was the driving force behind the first Viennese culinary art exhibition in 1884 .

Eduard Sacher died at the age of 49. His grave is in the Helenenfriedhof in Baden near Vienna .
