Eduard Spiegler

Eduard Spiegler (born August 14, 1860 in Vienna ; † July 20, 1908 there ) was an Austrian dermatologist .

Life

Eduard Spiegler was the son of a Jewish textile industrialist. After attending high school, he studied chemistry from 1880 at the universities of Vienna , Strasbourg , Jena , Zurich and Graz . In 1885 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In addition, he studied medicine from 1881 and was awarded a doctorate in Graz in 1888. med. PhD.

As a secondary doctor at the Vienna General Hospital , he worked in the chemical laboratory of the pathological-anatomical department with Ernst Ludwig and in the hygiene institute with Max von Gruber . From 1892 he was assistant to Moritz Kaposi .

In 1897 he completed his habilitation in dermatology in Vienna and moved to the dermatological department of the Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Spital . From 1900 he was, as the successor to Johann Heinrich Rilles , head of the Department of Dermatology at the General Polyclinic Vienna and headed it until his death. In 1903 he was appointed associate professor .

In 1904 Spiegler established a foundation with a laboratory under the direction of Sigmund Fraenkel .

He did research in the field of syphilis . The Spiegler reagent, the Spiegler tumor and the Brooke-Spiegler syndrome are named after him .

Eduard Spiegler found his final resting place in the old Jewish section of the Vienna Central Cemetery (Gate 1, Group 20, Row 24, Number 187).
