Eduardo Ruiz Asmussen

Eduardo Ruiz Asmussen is a Chilean diplomat.

Career

Asmussen holds degrees from the Faculty of Law of the Universidad de Chile and the Academia Diplomática de Chile “Andrés Bello”. He also studied international politics at the Xaveriana Pontifical University in Bogotá and international economics at the United Nations Training and Research Institute (UNITAR) in Geneva .

Asmussen worked at the Permanent Mission of Chile to the international organizations in Geneva (1984–1986), at the Chilean embassies for Belgium and Luxembourg (1975–1977), Brazil (1978–1979), Colombia (1982–1984) and Argentina ( 1989–1991) and at the consulates general in Córdoba / Argentina (1992–1993), Paris (1996–2001) and Sydney (2002–2007).

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Asmussen worked in the Directorate for Human Resources and Planning, Deputy Director for Bilateral Policy in America , Deputy Director for Ceremonies and Protocol (1994-1996), Interim Director and Head of the United Nations Division of the Directorate for Multilateral Economic Affairs (1987 –1988), as Deputy Director for European Affairs (2001–2002) and as Deputy Director of the Middle East and Africa Directorate (Diremoa) (2008–2010).

Asmussen is now the Chilean ambassador for Indonesia and East Timor , based in Jakarta . On June 17, 2011, he also handed over his accreditation as the first Chilean ambassador to ASEAN to Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan . Asmussen handed over his accreditation in East Timor in 2013. In 2018 Gustavo Ayares Ossandón was appointed as the new ambassador in Jakarta.
