Edward Frederic Benson (born July 24, 1867 in Berkshire , † February 29, 1940 in London ) was an English author .

Life

EF Benson's former home

Benson was born at Wellington College in Berkshire , the fifth child of the Rector, Edward White Benson , who would later become Archbishop of Canterbury . Benson studied at Marlborough College in Marlborough , Wiltshire and at King's College in Cambridge .

EF Benson has authored over 90 books. The most popular were his comic novels about Dodo ( Dodo , Dodo the Second and Dodo Wonder , 1914-1921) and Lucia, beginning with Queen Lucia (1920) and Lucia in London (1927). He also wrote the horror short story Die Turmstube ( The Room in the Tower ) in 1912 . Between 1911 and 1940, Benson also published five editions of personal and family memories.

His brother Arthur Christopher Benson was also known as a writer. His sister Margaret Benson was the first woman to receive a license in Egypt and to excavate there in the temple precinct of the goddess Mut in Karnak . Her brother "Fred" supported her in 1897 by drawing plans.
