After the death of MP Myron Benjamin Wright , who at the time of his death had already been re-elected for the following legislative term, Jorden was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when the by-election for the 15th seat of Pennsylvania was due , where he took up his new mandate on February 23, 1895.
