The Eel River arises at the confluence of Big Walnut Creek (right) and Mill River (left) in Clay County, about 6 km north of Poland . The Eel River initially flows southwest and passes the village of Bowling Green . It flows in a wide arc around Clay City and changes its direction of flow to the southeast. At Worthington the Eel River finally flows into the White River.
