The 12th Eesti Laul took place on February 29, 2020 and was the Estonian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ).

format

concept

The preliminary decision will again consist of two semi-finals and one final in 2020. A total of 24 songs will again take part in the semifinals. 12 songs are presented per semi-final, of which the best six qualify for the final. As in 2019 , the semi-finals will take place in the sports complex of the University of Tartu . The final will be held at the Saku Suurhall in Tallinn . The first five finalists will be decided 50% by televoting and 50% by jury voting. The sixth finalist will be decided in a second separate round by 100% televoting. In the final, twelve participants compete against each other in two voting rounds. 50% televoting and 50% jury voting will then determine the three best participants who will take part in the superfinal . In the superfinal , only the audience decides the winner and thus the Estonian contribution to the 2020 Song Contest.

Singer Karl-Erik Taukar and actor Tõnis Niinemets will lead the shows.

Choice of contribution

From September 1, 2019 to November 6, 2019, contributions could be submitted to ERR via an online platform . Foreign composers were once again able to submit contributions. However, there was still a fee for submitting contributions. If a song was submitted in Estonian , there was a fee of 25 euros. For other languages there was a fee of 75 euros. On November 7, 2019, ERR announced that they had received 178 songs. 76 songs were submitted in Estonian and 102 songs in other languages. In total there are 38 songs less than in the previous year .

Anu Varusk, Birgit Sarrap, Daniel Levi, Eda-Ines Etti, Hendrik Sal-Saller, Jüri Makarov, Kaupo Karelson, Lauri Hermann, Madis Aesma, Maiken, Owe Petersell, Sten Teppan and Vaido Pannel formed the jury for the selection of the songs.

Attendees

The 24 participants, including their songs, will be presented on November 13 and 14, 2019 in the Ringvaade program . Thus, 12 participants are presented per broadcast.
