The 11th Eesti Laul took place on February 16, 2019 and was the Estonian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel .

The winner was the Swedish singer Victor Crone with his song Storm .

format

concept

The preliminary decision will again consist of two semi-finals and one final in 2019. If the semi-finals last took place on two consecutive Saturdays, the two semi-finals will take place on Thursday and Saturday within three days. For the first time, however, the semi-finals will not take place in Tallinn , but in Tartu . Also for the first time a total of 24 songs will take part in the semifinals, after only 20 songs had taken part in the semifinals in previous years. 12 songs will be presented per semi-final, of which the best six will qualify for the final. The first five finalists will be decided 50% by televoting and 50% by jury voting. The sixth finalist will be decided in a second separate round by 100% televoting. In the final, twelve participants compete against each other in two voting rounds. 50% televoting and 50% jury voting will then determine the three best participants who will take part in the superfinal . In the superfinal , only the audience decides the winner and thus the Estonian contribution to the ESC 2019.

Choice of contribution

From the beginning of September 2018 to November 6, 2018, contributions could be submitted to ERR via an online platform . For the first time, foreign composers were also able to submit contributions. However, a fee for submitting contributions has been introduced. If a song was submitted in Estonian , there was a fee of 25 euros. For other languages there was a fee of 50 euros.

On November 15, 2018, ERR announced that the station had received 216 songs. A jury consisting of Ivar Black (composer), Lenna Kuurmaa (musician and singer), Kaupo Karelson (television producer), Leen Kadakas (manager of Universal Music Baltics), Vaido Pannel (Radio Sky Plus music editor), Allan Roosileht (Star FM presenter ), Mari-Liis Männik (editor-in-chief of Radio Elmar), Andres Puusepp (power hit radio presenter), Laura Põldvere (musician and singer), Karl-Erik Taukar (musician and singer), Dagmar Ojas (singer) Rolf Roosalu (musician and singer), Renee Meriste (music manager) and Sten Teppan (Vikerraadio music editor) selected the 24 participants.

Attendees

The winner of the Estonian preliminary decision: Victor Crone

On November 15, 2018, ERR announced the 24 participants of the Eesti Lauls 2019. Among them are even three former winners of the Eesti Lauls. The group The Swingers consists of four singers as well as the 2013 winners Birgit Õigemeel and 2014 Tanja . From the group Urban Symphony , which Eesti Laul won in 2009 , the lead singer Sandra Nurmsalu takes part. It is her third participation in total and her second as a solo artist, after taking part in Eesti Laul as a solo artist in 2014. Victor Crone is also worth mentioning . He already took part in the Swedish preliminary round of Melodifestivalen in 2015 . The songs of all 24 participants will be released on December 1, 2018.

On November 19, 2018, it was announced in which semifinals the respective contributions will appear.
