The Eesti Laul 2018 took place on March 3, 2018 and was the Estonian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon ( Portugal ). The winner was the singer Elina Netšajeva with her song La Forza .

concept

format

In 2018, the show again consists of three programs: two semi-finals and the final. First ten participants compete with their songs against each other in the semifinals. Five of them each qualify for the final. The first four finalists will be determined 50% by the jury and 50% by televoting. The fifth finalist will be determined exclusively by televoting in a second separate voting round. In the final, the ten qualifiers from each of the two semi-finals compete against each other. Three of them will then qualify for the superfinal . 50% of this is done by jury voting and 50% by televoting. In the superfinal , the winner will then be determined exclusively by televoting and may then present Estonia at the ESC 2018 at the end.

Choice of contribution

Interested parties could submit their songs from September 18, 2017 to November 1, 2017. The performers and composers should be Estonian or permanently resident in Estonia. Nonetheless, foreign composers were also allowed to take part. But 50% of the composers of the song had to be Estonian. The remaining 50% could come from abroad. As a composer, however, you could not submit more than three songs. A total of 258 entries were submitted, which is a new record.

Attendees

On November 10, 2017, ERR announced the 20 participants from Eesti Laul 2018. These were selected by the following jury: Karl-Erik Taukar (musician), Koit Raudsepp (R2), Alon Amir (music manager from Israel), Mariliis Mõttus (Müürileht), Andres Puusepp (DJ), Jaane Tomps (Delfi), Harri Hakanen (YLE, Soome), Mingo Rajandi (musician), Siim Nestor (Eesti Ekspress), Getter Jaani (singer), Sten Teppan (Vikerraadio), Mari-Liis Männik (Elmar), Toomas Puna (Sky Plus), Irina Svensson ( Raadio 4) and Valner Valme (ERR culture). Among the 20 participants are some well-known, such as Stig Rästa , who already represented Estonia in 2015 . Also Gerli Padar that Estonia already in 2007 represented, will return in 2018 for Eesti Laul. Moreover versa Rolf Junior back, which in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 tried to represent Estonia at the ESC. Even Karl Kristjan already tried in 2017 to represent Estonia at the ESC. The contributions of the 20 participants will be published on December 19 and 20, 2017.
