Egid Quirin Asam (baptized September 1, 1692 in Tegernsee ; † April 29, 1750 in Mannheim ) was a German painter, plasterer and sculptor of the late Baroque .

Life

After his apprenticeship with his father, the painter Hans Georg Asam , his first independent job was building the monastery church in Rohr from 1717 to 1723. Egid Quirin mainly worked with his brother, the builder and painter Cosmas Damian Asam . In 1723/24 they created the frescoing and stuccoing of the Freising Cathedral in just under a year and a half .

After Egid Quirin Asam had settled in Munich, between 1729 and 1733 he was able to acquire several properties next to his house. From 1733 he built the church of St. Johann Nepomuk there together with his brother Cosmas Damian , which is considered to be one of the most important buildings of the two main representatives of the southern German late baroque.

Asam last worked in the Mannheim Residence on the stucco work on the palace and on the painting of the Jesuit church. In the Second World War, all these works Asam have been destroyed in Mannheim.
