Egon Steigenberger

Egon Steigenberger (born September 7, 1926 in Baden-Baden ; † January 4, 1985 in Ruhpolding ) was a German hotelier .

The son of the businessman Albert Steigenberger , founder of Steigenberger Hotelgesellschaft KG , graduated from the Benedictine high school in Ettal and began studying economics and business administration at the University of Heidelberg . He broke off his studies in order to prepare for the takeover of his father's hotel chain, which had existed since 1930.

Since 1948 he supported his father as his closest colleague and gained practical experience on study trips to the USA. He took over the management of the Park Hotel in Düsseldorf and owned ten of his own hotels before becoming a personally liable partner of the hotel group after his father's death in 1958.

Egon Steigenberger continued the expansion of the group, now KG a. A. , leave quickly. In 1960 the first and in 1969 the second airport hotel at Frankfurt Airport was opened based on the American model. In 1972 he acquired the hotel vocational school in Bad Reichenhall . In the 1970s he built large holiday hotels at health resorts such as Grafenau , Lam , Bad Kissingen and Bad Neuenahr . In the 1980s, new hotels followed, for example in Berlin, Baden-Baden, Bonn and Saanen - Gstaad and Davos in Switzerland.

Since 1967 he was a member of the general assembly of the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry and an honorary commercial judge at the regional court. After Egon Steigenberger's death in 1985, the company was converted into a stock corporation. The Egon Steigenberger Prize, created in 1986 and honoring selected young executives, is named in his honor.

His marriage to Anne-Marie Steigenberger had four children and eight grandchildren.
