The former oil mill at Heinrich-Delp-Straße 14 is a building in Darmstadt-Eberstadt .

History and description

The oldest part of this half-timbered building is a former oil mill . In the middle of the 16th century , an extension was built on the mill and the building was used as a customs house from then on . Two further expansions followed at a time, which essentially form the current floor plan . The oldest part of the building and the extensions were given a shared upper floor and roof at a later date . The north side of the building formed the street front to the former Weingasse . After this alley was closed , the east side of the building became the new street front on Heinrich-Delp-Straße . The new course of the street made it necessary to bevel the eastern side of the building.

The large - volume two - storey building with the hipped mansard roof has a beaver tail covering . The corners of the building facing the street were in the 1950s with sgraffito - plaster decorated. On the north side there is visible framework, among other things with St. Andrew's crosses and figures of men .

The interiors on the first floor have original paintwork from the 16th century, donkey backs - lintels inside and outside and a richly decorated door.

Monument protection

The former oil mill is probably the oldest still existing half-timbered house in Eberstadt. Today the half-timbered building is used exclusively for residential purposes. The building was declared a cultural monument for architectural, architectural, industrial and urban history reasons .
