geography

Geographical location

Eichelberg is located about three kilometers southeast of the municipality in Affaltrach on the natural border between the widely open, flat hilly and agriculturally used Weinsberger Valley in the west and the Mainhardt Forest, covered by closed forests, in the east, which begins above the layer of sandstone ( Hassberge formation ). The place is in the valley fork of the Wilhelmsbach coming from the east , which then flows north before the stratification level, and its largest tributary Hundsbergbach , which also follows the stratification level from the south. The streams unite at about 291  m above sea level. NHN near the town center. Wine is grown on the part of the less high valley slopes in the west that is free from settlement, as well as on part of the east.

In addition to the village of Eichelberg, the Friedrichshof residential area also belongs to the district, which is less than a kilometer east-northeast of the town center and about 70 meters above the confluence of the stream on an open plateau spur of the Mainhardt Mountains.

Neighboring places

The village of Weiler is located about one kilometer to the northwest in a neighboring valley , less than two and a half kilometers to the north on the lower Wilhelmsbach of the village of Eschenau , both are also districts of Obersulm. A little over half a kilometer to the south-west is a part of the hamlet of Altenhau to the left above the Hundsbergbach valley, behind it in the neighboring valley about a kilometer away is the hamlet of Reisach , both of which are in the area of the small town of Löwenstein .

history

Eichelberg was first mentioned in 1275 and is probably a relatively young development settlement, which was probably founded from a hamlet , with which the place formed a common mark . The local rule was exercised by the lords of Weiler until 1806 . After the media coverage of the imperial knights hamlets and Eichelsberg were initially managed for some years by a joint council community. A dispute about participation in the costs for the expansion of the road from Willsbach via Affaltrach to Weiler, which was not continued to Eichelberg, but should have been co-financed by the citizens, gave the impetus for the separation of Weiler in 1827, which was awarded and awarded in 1828 Was confirmed in 1830. In 1849 the Friedrichshof was added to the Eichelberger Markung . On May 1, 1972, the new municipality of Obersulm was created through the merger of the municipalities of Affaltrach, Eichelberg, Eschenau, Weiler bei Weinsberg and Willsbach. On January 1, 1975, Sülzbach was incorporated.

coat of arms

The blazon of the Eichelberg coat of arms reads: In blue a five-leaf silver oak branch curved to the left with an acorn and an acorn bowl. The municipality's flag was white and blue.

The talking coat of arms can be identified for the first time in 1930 in a stamp from the mayor's office; the colors were presumably determined by the archives in 1948. Since the coat of arms was only used in the chosen colors after the German municipal code of 1935 came into force , it had to be awarded retrospectively. It was awarded to the community together with the flag on July 2, 1963 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior.
