Self-protection

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The self-protection is the active protection through appropriate preventive measures the danger to life or life to avert. Passive protection through suitable protective clothing is called self-protection .

The term self-protection is used in various hazardous professions or activities.

seafaring

In heavy seas, the crew and passengers must protect themselves from going overboard, especially with hooked lifebelts .

Assistance in the water

Lifeguards must be able to break free from the clasps of drowning Spanish swimmers.

fire Department

What is meant here is independent protection in the area at risk of falling at the fire brigade . In fall protection and rescue from heights , the belayer often has to secure himself while his troop man is secured by him.

Climb

In steep terrain, climbers have to use various techniques to protect themselves from falling. The self-protection is called there as self-protection.

military

In fire fighting , self- protection is ensured by firing shots from firearms or in close combat by stabbing with bayonets .

police

Imminent disarming of a police officer by a violent demonstrator

In order to be able to react effectively to physical and armed attacks or to disarmament, the officers are specially trained for self-protection, see operational behavior . The relevant regulations or recommendations in Germany are in the Police Service Regulation 450 ( self-protection of the police - RESTRICTED ) or in the Guide 371 ( self-protection in the police service - federally regulated RESTRICTED).

Within these sets of rules there are situation-related rules of conduct for the officers deployed to minimize any operational risks that may arise. Police officers in the field can use firearms , batons , shock grenades or steel rods to ward off spontaneous attacks . People who are in custody can be handcuffed if certain conditions are met to protect the intervening officers .

There is always a division of tasks in vehicle and personal controls: the security officer and the intervening officer carry out corresponding tasks and activities (double occupation). A constant exchange of information takes place with one another in order to be able to react promptly and appropriately to the behavior of the counterpart or the environment. When securing accident sites or other danger spots , a barrier is a means of securing here.
