Eiko E. Petersen (born January 10, 1940 in Würzburg ; † May 10, 2016 ) was a German specialist in gynecology , microbiology and infection epidemiologist as well as the author of books and specialist articles.

Life

Petersen passed the medical state examination in 1964 at the University of Freiburg and was then a medical assistant in the city ​​hospitals of Aachen for two years . In 1966 he studied biochemistry at the University of Freiburg with a grant from the German Research Foundation for RNA Polymerase . In the same year he wrote his dissertation . Between 1969 and 1976 he was at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Freiburg and wrote his habilitation in 1972 . In 1973 he received the venia legendi for medical microbiology and immunology . In 1977 he was appointed associate professor.

Petersen was married and has four children.

Career

Petersen was a doctor at the University Women's Clinic in Freiburg from 1977 and a senior physician from 1981. From 1986 he was head of the polyclinic of the UFK and in 1998 he was appointed head of the section “Gynecological Infectious Diseases”. In 2002 Petersen founded Kaymogyn GmbH . The company develops and sells pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, supports research in gynecology and organizes training courses. After leaving the UFK in 2005, he continued to work as a speaker, expert and author of specialist articles. Until 2016 Petersen held a special consultation for vulvar diseases in Freiburg.

Petersen wrote the standard works "Infections in Gynecology and Obstetrics" and "Color Atlas for Vulvar Diseases".

Memberships

Petersen was a member of the scientific advisory board of the specialist journal gynäkologie + geburtshilfe, the Paul Ehrlich Society for Chemotherapy , the Professional Association of Gynecologists and the International Society for the Study of Vulva Diseases .
