A dead man seeks his murderer is a British-German science fiction thriller from 1962 based on Curt Siodmak's novel The Sorcerer's Apprentice (also: Donovan's Brain ; 1942). It is the third film adaptation after The Lady and the Monster (1944) and Donovan's Brain (1953). The premiere in Germany took place on October 9, 1962.
action
The rich businessman and despot Max Holt is killed in a plane crash. Before that, he was seriously injured by the doctor and brain researcher Dr. Peter Corrie saved, the patient dies in his research laboratory. Against all moral concerns, Corrie secretly removes the intact brain from the dead for research purposes and places it in a nutrient solution to "keep it alive". After a while, the connected EEG actually shows brain activity - and not only that: the organ seems to have taken possession of the medical practitioner's mind. Corrie repeatedly falls into an absent state of mind that makes him do things that were typical of Max Holt. For example, he creates a list of names of people who were very close to Holt.
Over time it becomes clear that Holt sees himself as the victim of a plot by his business partners. The plane crash was caused by them. Instead of him, Corrie should now find the murderer and bring him to justice.
Cut versions
The German Pidax version contains an additional scene in which Immerman and Walters (both played by German actors) argue about the assignment of the manufacturer's license at a lake in German only. In return, the English version, in which all actors speak English, contains an additional scene at the end in which Peter Corrie and Martin Holt sum up in a car.
Reviews
"A mixture of a crime thriller and a horror film, largely routinely staged."
