Einar Heimisson

Einar Heimisson (born December 2, 1966 in Kópavogur , Iceland; † August 16, 1998 in Munich ) was an Icelandic writer and film director .

life and work

He studied history in Freiburg im Breisgau and wrote his doctoral thesis in 1992 on the subject of "The asylum situation in Iceland in the thirties in comparison with the other Nordic countries". In his novel Journey to the Land of Winter , he describes how Jews tried to survive in Iceland in the 1930s .

His 1997 film Maria, with actress Barbara Auer in the lead role, also has a theme from recent history. After the Second World War , Iceland recruited young women from Germany to help out in agriculture because many young Icelanders went to America with soldiers . A possible fate is told in the film.
