Gert Kreutzer

Gert Kreutzer (born August 5, 1940 in Glatz , Glatz district , Province of Silesia ) is a German Scandinavian and translator .

Life

After the expulsion of his family from the Silesian home in 1946 Gert Kreutzer grew up in Westphalia on. From 1951 to 1960 he attended grammar schools in Laer and Burgsteinfurt , where he passed the school leaving examination in 1960 . From 1960 to 1966 studied it German , Latin and Nordic philology at the universities in Münster and Tübingen . After the first state examination , which he passed in Münster in 1966 , he was a research assistant at the Nordic seminar at the University of Münster from 1966 to 1968 . From 1969 to 1970 he taught German and Latin at high schools in Coesfeld , Hamm and Bochum .

Gert Kreutzer then moved to the University of Kiel , where he worked at the Nordic Institute from 1970. In 1973 he received his doctorate , and from 1974 he held a position as a research assistant . In 1982 he completed his habilitation . In 1990 Kreutzer received the professorship for Nordic Philology at the University of Cologne . Kreutzer has been retired since 2005 . Today he lives in Kürten near Cologne .

In addition to his academic work, Gert Kreutzer works as a translator of literary texts from Icelandic into German . In 1996 he received the Knight's Cross of the Icelandic Order of Falcons . Since 2002 he has been President of the German-Isländische Gesellschaft e. V. in Cologne.
