An Idylle ( Russian Идиллия , Idillija ) is a story by Lev Tolstoy , which was written in 1862 and published posthumously in Moscow in 1911 in the Estates of LN Tolstoy's Artistic Works . In 1979 the fragment in vol. 3 of the 22-volume Tolstoy Complete Edition was published in two versions, also in Moscow. Below is the version of Don't play with fire, you'll get burned, sketched. The third version, entitled Tichon und Malanja , was neither completed nor published during the author's lifetime. According to some Tolstoy researchers, the cause could have been the author's liaison with the farmer Aksinija Basykina. Aksinija was a role model for the protagonist Malanja Rodionovna in the idyll and the farmer Stepanida Pechnikova in the devil .

An omniscient first-person narrator - Tolstoy wants the story from a peasant woman from his hometown of Yasnaya Polyana in 1860 - tells us how the wealthy manager Peter Evstratjewitsch Tregubov was conceived. His mother Malanja, who has since become a grandmother, finally wants to be spared the forty-year-old stories. In any case, Malanya's husband Evstrat Tregubov is not Peter's biological father at all.

It was like this around 1820: Malanja came from Majowka and was considered a stranger in the village, where the action took place. Her father, the enterprising Großbauer had her husband, the skilful wheelwright Jewstrat, as well-paid craftsmen hundred versts dismissed. Malanja was free like a soldier's wife and behaved like one. One man after another the desirable gave rise to hopes and finally made a fool of him. Cunning, deceit and violence were the tools of this nimble peasant woman. One thing should be said about the aforementioned female violence. If the suitor in question was close to the goal of his wishes, the strong Malanja struck him bloody in the nose with a blow and was able to escape the "attacker" at the last second. One of the men mentioned, 16-year-old awkward Andrei Karawajich from the village of Teljatinki, didn't really want a wife. At first, Andrei did not know what a man could do with a woman. His mother, the poor matryoshka Karawajicha, had placed the good worker with Malanya's father-in-law as a servant. The clever big farmer liked the bee-hardworking, undemanding but clumsy Andrei. Malanja, close to Andreis day and night in her father-in-law's farm household, once pounced on the surprised, quiet boy in high spirits. The intensive physical contact did the rest. Andrei fell in love with the woman. Of course, he suffered the fate of his male predecessors. He, too, was ultimately led by the nose - at the exact time when the childless Malanja succumbs to the charm of the almost twenty-year-old cattle dealer Matwei Romanowitsch. The stranger impregnates the lovely Malanja. The expectant mother wants to chase Andrei out of the house. Vain. Andrei protests that he would stay even if he had to work for free. When Jewstrat shows up that night and hears the news, he hits Malanya's eye blue. But the image of the cattle dealer, born after nine months, could not beat Jewstrat out of his wife Malanya.
