The Centaurea uniflora ( Centaurea uniflora ) is a plant from the genus of knapweed ( Centaurea ) in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

features

The single-headed knapweed is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 40 cm. It is densely haired with white felt and covered with short, multicellular, coarse hair. The stem is upright, leafy and has only one flower head. The green-gray leaves are dotted with glands, narrow-lanceolate and narrower than one centimeter. They are whole or slightly serrated, the upper ones sit on the stem.

The green envelope is about as long as it is wide and is mostly covered by the appendages of the middle envelope scales, which are elongated into a long, light brown, feathery, bent-back tip. The appendages of the inner scales are entire. As is usual with the subfamily Carduoideae , only tubular flowers are present; they are purple. The tubular florets at the edge are slightly zygomorphic and enlarged. The flowering period extends from July to September. The achenes are gray-brown.

Occurrence

The single-headed knapweed is widespread in the western Alps from the Maritime Alps to the Isèretal and the Graian Alps . It occurs at altitudes over 1500 m on warm, dry and nutrient-rich soils on meadows and slopes.
