Einsiedl is a hamlet at the southwest end of the Walchensee at the confluence of the Obernach Canal . The hamlet is part of the municipality of Kochel am See and belongs to the Catholic parish of Walchensee .

The settlement on the B 11 - from Munich to Mittenwald - is divided by the canal: The properties north of the Obernach canal form a hamlet of the municipality of Kochel am See . The buildings south of the Obernach Canal, u. a. The Obernach power plant and the Walchensee youth center, formerly the Einsiedl forestry house, belong to the Jachenau community and are included in Altlach , the rest of the property's three kilometers further east on the southern shore of the Walchensee.

The Obernach run-of-river power station is located on the toll road , which runs along the south bank of the Walchensee and then via Niedernach to Jachenau .

One kilometer southwest of Einsiedl is the hamlet of Obernach, which is divided between the communities of Wallgau and Jachenau . The border between the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen runs through the hamlet . Likewise, the former border between the Ettal and Benediktbeuern monasteries runs right through Obernach in a north-south direction . Several historical landmarks from 1765 still mark this line today. The two farms Wolf and Öttl (formerly part of Ettal Abbey) belong to the municipality of Wallgau in the Isar valley, the others (including Schilcher) are included in the Altlach district of Jachenau, four kilometers away .

Two kilometers south of the Obernach Canal, the Technical University of Munich operates the research institute for hydraulic engineering and water management, which is also included in Altlach (Jachenau).
