Iron (II) acetate is a chemical compound of iron from the group of acetates with the constitutional formula Fe (CH 3 COO) 2 .

Extraction and presentation

Iron (II) acetate can be obtained by reacting iron with acetic acid.

properties

Iron (II) acetate is a light brown to almost white, air and moisture sensitive solid that is soluble in water. Its tetrahydrate is soluble in water and ethanol and has a green to (through oxidation ) brown color. Iron (II) acetate crystallizes in the space group Pbcn (space group no. 60) and as a 2D coordination polymer made of iron atoms and acetate groups. Template: room group / 60

use

Iron (II) acetate is used as an additive in paints and as a mordant . It also serves as a catalyst in organic chemistry and as a starting material for other iron compounds (e.g. iron complexes). The tetrahydrate is used as a dye for textiles and leather, in medicine and as a wood preservative .
