The Eisenberg is 499  m above sea level. NN high elevation near Battenberg in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

Geographical location

The Eisenberg rises about 1.5 km northwest of the center of the Battenberg core city as the northern branch of the Beerberg ( 504  m ). The river Eder flows around it in the west, north and northeast, roughly in the form of a horseshoe . The Battenberg village of Dodenau is about 2 km to the west across the Eder . The south-eastern neighbor is the Battenberger Burgberg (approx. 464  m ) with the Kellerburg ruins .

Ring wall

During the Celtic period, there was a ring wall system on the Eisenberg , of which walls can still be seen today, although they are heavily sanded . One plan speaks in favor of a multi-phase development of the plant with a core plant and Wallannexen. Findings from reading ( ceramics , fibulas , belt hooks, tools and implements, weapons, harness, coins) indicate settlement in the period from 250/200 to 20 BC. Chr.

leisure

The Eisenberg is used for paragliding over the valley of the Eder. Several forest and hiking trails lead over the wooded mountain.
