The Eishof is an old farm in South Tyrol , which today is important as accommodation for hikers. It is located at 2076 m slm in the furthest valley basin of the Pfossental , a high side valley of the Schnalstal , and covers an area of approx. 1100 ha. The Eishof and its surroundings are located in the Texel Group Nature Park .
history
The Eishof was first mentioned in a document in 1290. Around the middle of the 19th century it gained importance as a base for mountaineers, although at that time it was still very poorly equipped. In 1896 a separate guest room was set up here for the first time. The farm was inhabited all year round until 1897 and was considered the highest permanent settlement in the Eastern Alps . From 1898 it was only managed as an alpine pasture . In 1924, the Eishof was sold for 140,000 lire to ten farming families from Merano, six of whom are still the owners of the Eishof today. In 1973 the courtyard fell victim to arson, but was rebuilt by 1981 with the support of the state government. The inn, which can only be reached on foot, is still open in summer.
rise
From Gasthof Jägerrast (Vorderkaser 1693 m ) in Pfossental, you hike on the farm road into the valley to Mitterkaser Alm ( 1954 m ) and in a moderate ascent - past the Rableid Alm ( 2013 m ) - you reach ice farm after an hour and a half.
hikes
The Eishof is located on the Meraner Höhenweg and serves as its base, and hikes to the Eisjöchl and the nearby Stettiner Hütte take three hours and over the Johannes-Scharte to the Lodnerhütte in three and a half hours.
