The Stettiner Hütte (spelling also Stettinerhütte ; also Eisjöchlhütte , Italian Rifugio Francesco Petrarca ) is a mountain hut in the Ötztal Alps in South Tyrol . The hut ( 2875 m slm ) is located in the middle of the Texel Group Nature Park to the east just below the Eisjöchl ( 2895 m slm ). The Eisjöchl is a transition between the Pfelderer Tal and the Pfossental and connects the Ötztal main ridge ( Schnalskamm , Gurgler Kamm ) with the Texel group .
In February 2014 the hut was badly damaged by an avalanche. In the meantime, the hut, with the exception of the foundations, has been demolished. A snack bar will be operated in a temporary wooden hut until the hut is rebuilt. Overnight stays are now possible again. In addition to a multi-bed room in the temporary accommodation of the hut, there have been six small wooden huts since July 2018, in which 40 people can stay overnight. The construction site for the new building was opened in summer 2020.
history
The original hut was built between 1895 and 1897 by the Stettin section of the DÖAV together with the construction of the road to the Pfelderer valley, in 1900 and 1913 this first small hut was expanded. In 1922 the Szczecin Section was expropriated and the hut was handed over to the Padua Section of the CAI . Later it was taken over by the CAI section Bolzano. In 1931 an avalanche partially destroyed the hut. Since the reconstruction it has been looked after by the CAI section Merano. The hut was occupied by the Italian military between 1965 and 1972, after which it was again managed. In 1992 a new hut was built.
Together with 24 other shelters expropriated by the state, the Stettiner Hütte became the property of the Autonomous Province of Bozen - South Tyrol in 1999; At the end of 2010, the license for their management by the CAI expired.
In February 2014, the hut was largely destroyed by an avalanche after heavy snowfall. Since a large part of the hut was torn away, the remains could only be temporarily secured in order to operate a snack station until a new building was built. Overnight stays are now possible again. For this purpose, in addition to a multi-bed room in the temporary accommodation of the hut, there was a tent camp consisting of six tents since July 2017. In August 2019 six wooden huts were available.
The South Tyrolean provincial government decided in 2014 to start planning a new building. A joint commission founded in 2015, in which the AVS and CAI are represented in addition to the public sector , will then support the state of South Tyrol in the management (awarding of tenants, supervision of the management, renovation measures) of the reopened hut. Construction work began in 2020 and is expected to be completed by 2023.
Increase opportunities
The hut can be approached from the Pfossental in the west or from the Pfelderer Tal in the east. Both climbs are about the same length and take about 4 hours. Both the ascent from Pfossental and from Pfelders are often tackled by mountain bike .
The ascent from the Pfossental begins at the Eishof ( 2071 m ) and leads over the Eisjöchl to the hut. From Pfelders , the ascent path initially leads slightly uphill to Lazins, the last settlement in the valley, and on to the cultivated Lazinser Kaser . Now it goes further southwest in hairpin bends up the slopes, through the wide scree cirque. In the area of a former hut of the Italian financial guard , the Pfelderer Höhenweg branches off to the right to the Zwickauer hut . From there it's just under 200 meters in altitude to the hut.
Tour possibilities
The hut is located on the Meraner Höhenweg and is the end point of the 10th stage of the Tyrolean Höhenweg . The hut is also located on various routes for crossing the Alps by mountain bike .
The most popular summit tour is the Hochwilde ( 3480 m ) via the Hans-Grützmacher-Weg. This glacier-free ascent was laid out at the turn of the 20th century and named after a person from Szczecin who supported this project. Other summit destinations are the Hochweiß ( 3278 m ) and other peaks of the northern Texel group .
Transitions are possible to the following huts:
- Zwickauer Hut (4 hours)
- Lodnerhütte (3½ hours)
- Hochganghaus (5½ hours)
- Hochwildehaus (6 hours)
