Tyrolean high path
The Tiroler Höhenweg ( Alta via Tiroler Höhenweg ) is a 130 km long mountain hiking trail from Mayrhofen in Tyrol to Merano in South Tyrol . Although the trail officially starts in Mayrhofen, most hikers start the tour at the Schlegeisspeicher , which can be reached from Mayrhofen by bus.
history
The Tiroler Höhenweg was officially opened in 2002 after two years of planning by Austrian and Italian officials. It connects existing paths in the border area between Austria and Italy and has been continuously marked with the symbol of the Tyrolean High Trail.

The Höhenweg connects the tourist centers of Mayrhofen and Merano. On the way it crosses the Zillertal Alps , the Brenner Mountains on the main Alpine ridge, the dolomite peaks of the Tribulaune, the Pflersch and Ridnaun valleys , the medieval mines on the Schneeberg and the Texel Group .
Stages
The high-altitude trail is usually divided into 13 stages, there are also various variants that shorten the route to 11 stages or contain alternative routes:
1st stage: Mayrhofen (633 m) - Schlegeisspeicher ( 1782 m ) - Landshuter Europahütte / Rif. Venna alla Gerla ( 2693 m )
2nd stage: Landshuter Europahütte / Rif. Venna alla Gerla - Brenner Pass / Brennero ( 1370 m ) - Sattelbergalm ( 1637 m )
3rd stage: Sattelbergalm - Obernberger See ( 1594 m ) or Obernberg ( 1394 m )
4th stage: Obernberg - Italian Tribulaunhütte / Rif. Calciati al Tribulaun ( 2368 m )
5th stage: Italian Tribulaunhütte / Rif. Calciati al Tribulaun - Innerpflersch / St. Anton ( 1246 m )
6th stage: Innerpflersch / St. Anton - Maiern in the Ridnauntal ( 1370 m )
7th stage: Maiern in Ridnauntal - St. Martin am Schneeberg ( 2355 m )
8th stage: St. Martin am Schneeberg - Gasthaus Hochfirst ( 1763 m )
9th stage: Gasthaus Hochfirst - Zwickauer Hütte (Planfernerhütte) ( 2979 m )
10th stage: Zwickauer Hütte - Stettiner Hütte ( 2875 m )
11th stage: Stettiner Hütte - Pfelders ( 1622 m )
12th stage: Pfelders / Pfelderer Tal - Bockerhütte ( 1700 m )
13th stage: Bockerhütte - Meran (approx. 500 m)
