The Zwickauer Hut (also Planferner Hut , Italian Rifugio Plan ) is a mountain hut in the Gurgler Kamm of the Ötztal Alps in South Tyrol . The hut is located north above the Pfelder valley at an altitude of 2989 m slm above the southern edge of the Planferner. A material cable car leads from Pfelders to the hut, which is located in the Texel Group Nature Park .
history
The hut was built in 1899 by the Zwickau section of the DuOeAV . It had space for 19 climbers. After the First World War , the Zwickau section was expropriated and the hut was taken over by the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI).
The hut played a role several times in conflicts between the citizens of Pfelders and the Italian administration, in particular the financial watch , which took action against smugglers . In 1933 the hut burned down and is said to have been set on fire as an act of revenge. In 1960 the hut was rebuilt by the CAI section Merano , and in 1965 it was confiscated by the Italian military. In 1967 the hut was destroyed by an explosion. The reconstruction took place from 1982 to 1983.
Together with 24 other shelters expropriated by the state, the Zwickauer Hütte became the property of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol in 1999; At the end of 2010, the license for their management by the CAI expired. Since 2015, the state of South Tyrol has been supported in the management of the hut (assignment to tenants, supervision of management, renovation measures) by a joint commission, in which the AVS and CAI are represented in addition to the public sector .
Increase opportunities
The shortest ascent leads from Pfelders over the steep southern slope in about 4 hours. From the village it goes on a marked path north-west steeply over meadow slopes. After crossing the Fernerbach, the slope is first crossed southwest, later it goes up in bends to the serviced Untere Schneidalm (2270 m), whereby the hut climb does not lead directly past the alpine hut. From the Alm, first continue southwest on the ridge of the Obere Schneid , where a variant of the Pfelderer Höhenweg branches off. From there now again in a north-westerly direction over the mostly grassy ridge, later up over Schrofen . Shortly below the hut there are further branches, first to the Stettiner hut , later to the Rauhen Joch .
Alternatively, the hut can be reached from Obergurgl in a 4½-hour glacier hike over the Rotmoosferner and Rotmoosjoch; if you use the chairlift to Hohen Mut , this ascent can be done in 3 hours. The path is marked as far as the Rotmoosferner.
Tour possibilities
The most popular summit tours from the Zwickauer Hütte are the Hintere Seelenkogel (3472 m) and the Liebenerspitze (3400 m). Other summit destinations are the Rootmooskogel (3338 m), Scheiberkogel (3135 m), Trinkerkogel (3161 m), Heuflerkogel (3245 m) and the Seewerspitze (3302 m).
The Pfelderer Höhenweg is ideal as a transition to the Stettiner Hütte . Further crossings are possible to the Hochwildehaus and the Langtalereckhütte .
Long-distance hiking trail: The hut is the destination of the ninth stage of the Tyrolean High Trail .
Others
On the occasion of the 115th anniversary of hut construction, a big celebration was to take place on July 25, 2014 with around 200 citizens of Zwickau, including Mayor Pia Findeiß and Mayor Rainer Dietrich. On the ascent to the hut Dietrich died of a heart attack about 300 m below.
