The Hintere Seelenkogel is the one after the neighboring Hochwilden with an altitude of 3470  m above sea level. A. the second highest peak in the Gurgler Kamm in the Ötztal Alps . The middle ( 3424 m ) and the Vordere Seelenkogel ( 3286  m ) are located in front of the ridge that extends  northwards . The Austrian-Italian state border runs over the summit, the slopes sloping down to the South Tyrolean side are protected in the Texel Group Nature Park .

The name comes from the small lakes ("See-len"), which are located on the northwestern side of the Seelenkögel.

The easiest ascent leads on the South Tyrolean side from Pfelders over the Zwickauer Hütte and the east ridge. This ascent is free of glaciers, but the east ridge requires surefootedness (L +).
