Claudia Barainsky (born September 30, 1965 in Berlin ) is a German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Claudia Barainsky studied singing in her hometown of Berlin at the Hochschule der Künste , with Ingrid Figur and in the master classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann . At the beginning of her career she sang at the Musiktage in Hitzacker , the May Festival in Wiesbaden , the Berliner Festwochen , the Schubertiade in Feldkirch , the Tage für Neue Musik in Witten , the Chamber Music Festival in Kuhmo and the International Festival Young Artists in concert in Davos . She made her stage debut in 1993 at the Stadttheater Bern as Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail . There followed in 1994 the title role of Lulu and in the same year she was first heard in the title role of Melusine in Aribert Reimann's opera of the same name at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden .

In 1995 she performed at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier , as Musetta in La Bohème and as Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail. From 1998 to 2000 she was the first flower girl in Parsifal and in 2000 she was also the forest bird in Siegfried at the Bayreuth Festival. Also in 1998 she performed at the Stuttgart State Opera in Al gran sole carico d'amore by Luigi Nono .

In 2000 she performed as Martirio in the world premiere of Aribert Reimann's opera Bernarda Albas Haus at the Munich State Opera . In 2001 she played the same role in a repeat at the Komische Oper in Berlin. Also in 2001 she played Anna in Hans Heiling by Heinrich Marschner at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

In addition, she made numerous trips as a concert singer. She has made guest appearances at the Handel Festival in Karlsruhe and at the opera houses in Stuttgart , Amsterdam , Avignon , Hamburg , Leipzig , Cologne , Brussels and Tokyo . She returned to the Semperoper in Dresden as Queen of the Night, Sophie, Konstanze, Cleofide and in 2009 as Badi'at in Hans Werner Henze's L'Upupa . In 2007, she was named "Best Singer" for her Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann's opera Die Soldaten with the Prize of the German Record Critics' Award.

In September 2010 Claudia Barainsky could be heard in the German premiere of Aribert Reimann's Medea as Medea at the Frankfurt Opera. For this she received the German theater award Der Faust in 2011 . In 2017 she sang the role at the Vienna State Opera under the direction of Michael Boder .

In June 2014 she made her debut in the title role of Richard Strauss ' Daphne at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse.

In April 2017 she sang the world premiere of Uri Caine's Cycle on texts from “ Des Knaben Wunderhorn ” at the Heidelberger Frühling , conducted by Kristjan Järvi .

It is internationally considered to be one of the most versatile in its field and its wide-ranging repertoire includes works from all eras such as the soprano parts of the great oratorios, symphonies (Beethoven's 9th symphony, Mahler's 2nd, 4th and 8th symphonies) and orchestral songs as well as previous ones especially contemporary compositions and works that composers write for you over and over again.

She worked with well-known conductors such as Gerd Albrecht , Herbert Blomstedt , Sylvain Cambreling , Christoph Eschenbach , Michael Gielen , Hartmut Haenchen , Daniel Harding , Zubin Mehta , Ingo Metzmacher , Christian Thielemann and Lothar Zagrosek .
