The Pfossental is located in the Ötztal Alps south of the main Alpine ridge and thus in South Tyrol , the northernmost part of Italy . It extends from the Eisjöchl at 2895 m to the Schnalstal at 1150 m slm over a length of a good twelve kilometers. The Pfossental is located entirely in the Texel Group Nature Park .
Waters
The valley floor forms the border between the Schnalskamm and the Texel group . The Pfossenbach initially flows through it in a westerly direction, from the right the Gfasserbach and Grafbach flow , before the water heads south towards the Schnalser Bach .
Settlements
There are no villages in the Pfossental, just a few farms, including the Eishof, which was inhabited all year round until 1897 . At an altitude of 2076 m slm , it was considered the highest permanent settlement in the Eastern Alps. Today it is only used as an alpine pasture and lodging house.
