The house is the starting point for a path west to the Sattelspitze and east over the Taufenscharte to the Mutspitze . The Hochgangschartl is located directly above the house . From here you can reach the Spronser Seen , to the east the Spronser Rötelspitze and to the west the Tschigat and further over the Halsljoch the Lazinser Rötelspitze .

history

In 1909, the Marling farmer Josef Menz completed the first shelter at this point. Then he handed it over to his son Anton Menz. He opened the building in 1910 as a tourist house . Because it was privately owned, it was not expropriated after the First World War like the Alpine Club huts.

Since the nearby Lodnerhütte had been handed over to the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) in 1923 , the Merano section of the Alpine Club South Tyrol (AVS) , which was founded after the Second World War , tried to find replacements for its members and was able to lease the Hochganghaus from 1947 to 1979 to take. Since then it has been privately managed again. A new building has been in operation next to the old shelter since 2010.

In 2013 the old building was placed under monument protection by the South Tyrolean provincial government .
