The Mutspitze (also Mutspitz or simply the courage , Italian Monte Muta ) is a 2291 m slm high mountain in South Tyrol , Italy .
location
The Mutspitze is located north of Merano above the village of Dorf Tirol and forms the southeast corner pillar of the Texel Group , a mountain group of the Ötztal Alps . To the south, the Mutspitze drops steeply to the Merano valley basin about 2,000 meters below with the villages of Algund and Dorf Tirol . The Spronser Tal with the Spronser Lakes extends on the likewise steeply sloping north and east sides . In the northwest there is the Taufenscharte ( 2231 m ) and the Mitterjoch ( 2200 m ), which continues to the Kleiner Rötelspitz and the Spronser Rötelspitze . The mountain is under protection in the Texel Group Nature Park .
ways
The ascent to the Mutspitze can be done via several routes. A path leads from Dorf Tirol via Gasthof Farmerkreuz and the lower Muthöfe to Hochmuter ( 1361 m ) (you can also get here with the Hochmuterbahn ) and on via Steinegg ( 1396 m ) to Mutkopf ( 1664 m ). From there (if necessary after refreshment) you can reach the summit via path no. 23 in about one and a half hours. You can also get to the summit from Vellau by hiking to the Leiteralm ( 1522 m ) and then climbing on path no.25 to the Taufenscharte ( 2230 m ) and on to the summit.
Surname
The etymon Mut or Mutt occurs frequently in the central Alpine region. It is presumably based on a pre-Roman word meaning "hill, hilltop, blunt elevation". In the case of the Mutspitze, the name of the mountain can already be found in the 13th century.
